Does anyone know how to hatch duck eggs???

Postby Horsegirl4 » Wed Apr 11, 2007 5:32 pm

Does anyone know how to hatch duck eggs? My friend found abandoned duck eggs and is trying very hard to hatch them. She has looked on many different websites and has found different answers on each one. Right now they are being kept warm under a heat lamp and being rotated small end down once a day. Any suggestions anyone?

First off-if these are wild ducks-it is against the law to hatch them. All water-fowl (native species) are protected by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service-otherwise know as the Federal Government.
IF these are farm (Pekin etc) ducks-then you can hatch them out. It is best to get a heated brooder from Farm and Fleet or where ever. The hardest part of this is keeping the heat consistant. You must keep the eggs moist-mist them with water a couple times a day. You also must turn them-I put an X on one side and turn them 2x a day. You must keep up with this-you cannot "forget" for a day or so.
Good luck!
